Brexit not working because party did not achieve it – Badenoch. As the UK records drop in Net Migration
Despite struggle for Britain to exit European Union in recent years, there has been no visible success.
A number of Prime Ministers (governments) have come and gone, promising to achieve “Brexit,” but all have been seen stepping down due to their inability to deliver on their promise.
Reacting to the failed push to exit EU by Britain, Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch has finally conceded that the plot has been unsuccessful as it should have been, suggesting that “it is not working.”
She recalls that the previous government could still not deliver even after the country voted to halt free movement.

Her assertion came after the Tories promised to support a “new leader with a new approach” to curb the high level of migration into the United Kingdom, she warns: “The system is broken, and, until we accept that, all politicians are doomed to fail.”
“We ended free movement, but the system that replaced it is not working, under my leadership, we are learning from our mistakes,” the Tory leader said in a press conference.
On Thursday, while reaction to the publication of net migration figures, Badenoch said, “Tomorrow’s figures will likely show a reduction in net immigration and no doubt the new government will try to take credit for that reduction.
“But that change is due to the reforms that the Conservatives made during our final months in power.”
During the closing of 2023, the party declared an increase to the minimum earning threshold for overseas working individuals by almost 50 per cent from its present stage of £26,200 to £38,700, as well as finishing the 20 per cent going-rate salary discount for shortage occupations.
Ms. Badenoch gave a speech on her party’s approach to migration in Westminster, where she vowed to introduce a policy of hard cap on the immigrants arriving UK, with “zero tolerance policy” for illegal migration.
She said: “Millions want to come here, but we as politicians have to do right by the citizens of this country before anyone else.”
She also vows to look into reassessing the UK’s membership of the European Convention on Human Rights.
“We will review every policy, treaty and part of our legal framework, including the ECHR and the Human Rights Act.
And in designing our detailed policies will put the following elements at the core –a strict numerical cap with visas only for those who will make a substantial and clear overall contribution,” she said.
The Tory leader then clamored for a “reconsidered approach to citizenship,” proposing that a British passport should be made a “privilege, not an automatic right.”
Standing next to her was shadow Immigration minister Chris Philip who alleged that Labor are “reluctant to talk about Immigration much at all,” stating: “The truth is they don’t have the answers.”
Mr. Philip disclosed that the Conservatives had embarked on a journey to lower migration figures, stressing that: “It is also true that we need to go much further to take tougher measures, as Kemi (Badenoch) set out a few minutes ago.
“And those tougher measures will include a hard cap on numbers and zero tolerance for illegal migration. So with a new leader, the Conservatives will develop a new approach.”
Tory party’s Rwanda plan was rendered unachievable by the Labor party in their first week in office following the failure of the previous government to get a lone flight out of the runway.
The plan – which was estimated to be £700m – was tied up in legal opposition and challenges from MPs and peers, becoming an icon of the party’s failure to tackle increasing immigration.
Reacting when asked if the Conservative Party could be trusted again, Badenoch stated: “To earn back trust you need to acknowledge where you got things wrong, and we are acknowledging today that while we may have tried, we did not deliver.
“We brought in a points-based system that I personally thought was only going to allow skilled migrants in and instead it allowed a lot of people at low incomes and with dependents.
“So we are going to change that. But we want people to know that we recognize their frustration and in many cases, certainly in mine, we share it.”
According to the minister for border and asylum, Angela Eagle, she said: “It’s welcome the Tories finally accept that immigration spiraled out of control on their watch.
But Kemi Badenoch offers no new ideas or alternative to her party’s failed policies of the past.”
She continued: “The Conservatives wasted hundreds of millions of pounds in taxpayers’ cash on the Rwanda gimmick, and it’s clear they would do it all over again. The Tories have learned nothing.
“Labour is fixing the foundations and getting a grip on the Tories’ immigration chaos.
“Our new Border Security Command is working with our European partners to smash the criminal gang networks driving small boat crossings, and we’re ramping up the removal of people with no right to be in the UK.”
Fall In Migration Figures: Badenoch And Cleverly Boast
The peoples of United Kingdom rejoice as the migration net figures continues to fall.
Conservative party leader Kemi Badenoch and James Cleverly, former Home Secretary, have both indicated that changes to visa enforced by the Tories are the catalysts for tremendous fall in migration figure.
Figures published today by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) indicated sharp drop in the migration to the United Kingdom by 20 per cent from this year’s January to June against previous years.
In June, 2024, the total number of migration to the United Kingdom was a provisional 728,000 from its previous figure of 906,000 in 2023.
Yesterday, taken from Badenoch’s speech on migration, she said: “Tomorrow, immigration figures will be released that should show a drop in net migration.
“This is because of the changes we made in the last year of the Conservative government.”
As the figure is released today, Mr. Cleverly said: “Today’s migration figures are the first to show the impact of the changes that I brought in as Home Secretary.
“Numbers are still too high, but we see the first significant downward trend in years. Changes that Labor opposed and haven’t fully implemented.”
Latest reports claim rapid rise in asylum processing as it is very obvious in the publication of Home Office this morning.
The figure of asylum seekers who have been been notified on their asylum status in September, 2024, was 102,305 which almost at the double of the figure recorded last year.
The success of asylum application is already going down, with just only 52% of those initially notified being granted, compared to 75% in 2023.
Badenoch and Cleverly claim credit for reduction in net migration
James Cleverly, former Home secretary, has received credit for this morning’s fall in net migration. In his tweet on X, Cleverly said: “Today’s migration figures are the first to show the impact of the changes that I brought in as Home Secretary.
“Numbers are still too high, but we see the first significant downward trend in years. Changes that Labour opposed and haven’t fully implemented.”
We can recall that yesterday in Badenoch’s speech, when she said: “Tomorrow, immigration figures will be released that should show a drop in net migration. This is because of the changes we made in the last year of the Conservative government.”
What Made Net Migration Fall
Mary Gregory, the ONS director, in her statement while explaining the drop in figure, she said: “Since 2021, long-term international migration to the UK has been at unprecedented levels.
This has been driven by a variety of factors, including the war in Ukraine and the effects of the post-Brexit immigration system.
“While remaining high by historic standards, net migration is now beginning to fall and is provisionally down 20% in the 12 months to June 2024.Over that period we have seen a fall in immigration, driven by declining numbers of dependents on study visas coming from outside the EU.”
She stressed that the UK did not experience drop in the number of migrants coming in to work during the first few months of the year, 2024.
