Fury beats Wilder to retain his WBC Heavyweight Belt on Saturday night. Tyson Fury beat Deontay Wilder to retain his WBC Heavyweight belt with an 11th-round TKO on Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The fight absolutely ranks in the league of the all-time heavyweight classics producing three knockdowns before the final knockdown that ends the boxing match at the 11th round.
The bout will take its place among the likes of Patterson-Johansson, Ali-Frazier, Ali-Norton and Bowe-Holyfield.
Fury went down twice and Wilder went down three times, getting floored the last time with a powerful right hand. The referee promptly waved off the fight.
The boxing bout completed the trilogy between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder.
The first fight ended in a split draw and Fury won the second fight by TKO in the seventh round and the third fight with an eleventh round TKO.
This victory is more remarkable given the fact that the Gypsy King’s career appeared over when he left the sport of boxing for more than two years amid public battles with addiction and mental illness,
There is still no love lost between the two fighters after their trilogy with Tyson Fury arguing that he won the three fights, including the first fight that was adjudged a split draw decision.
Fury, the 33-year-old from Manchester who was making the seventh defense of the lineal heavyweight championship landed more than twice as many punches (150) as did Wilder (72), including 52 in the final three rounds alone. He was ahead on all three scorecards – by scores of 95-91, 95-92 and 94-92 – at the time of the stoppage.
Deontay Wilder Says…..
“I did my best, but it wasn’t good enough tonight,” said the 35-year-old Wilder, who was taken to nearby University Medical Center afterward for evaluation as a precaution.
“I’m not sure what happened. I know that in training he did certain things, and I also knew that he didn’t come in at 277lbs to be a ballet dancer. He came to lean on me, try to rough me up and he succeeded.”
Tyson Fury Says….
“It was a great fight, worthy of the best trilogies,” Fury said in the immediate aftermath. “I will not make any excuses, Wilder is a top fighter, he gave me a run for my money. I always say I am the best fighter in the world and he is the second-best. Don’t ever doubt me. When the chips are down I can always deliver.”
“Wilder’s a tough fighter,” Fury said after the fight. “He gave me a real run for my money tonight.”
He further said that “He’s got no love for me, Deontay Wilder because you know why? Because I beat him three times and it’s like, I’m a sportsman, I went over to him to show some love and respect and he didn’t want to give it back. So that’s his problem. I’ll pray for him, so God will soften his heart.”
“Me and Wilder’s saga is done now, done for good,” Fury said.
“It was definitely a historic trilogy. It swung both ways, both fighters had the opportunity to seize the moment and it was just that I showed the initiative and dug deeper and I wanted it more.”
“Because at the end of the day, when it comes down to that sort of fight, it’s who’s willing to push further.”
With the victory, Fury defended his WBC heavyweight world title belt and the heavyweight lineal championship. Fury improved to 31-0-1 and Wilder dropped to 42-2-1.
Fury will be eyeing a fight against the winner of the Anthony Joshua-Oleksandr Usyk rematch, expected to take place in the spring. However, he might first have to fight Dillian Whyte, who on Oct. 30 fights Otto Wallin. Celebrities at the fight Saturday night included Magic Johnson and Shaquille O’Neal and retired NFL stars Charles Woodson and Michael Strahan.
