As He Asks Those Against Him To Hug Power Transformer
Nyesom Wike, the immediate past Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has said he feels no remorse working under President Bola Tinubu who is from the opposition party.
Wike joined Peoples’ Democratic Party in 1999, where he has amassed massive success after serving as a minister during the administration of former president Goodluck Jonathan, and also two-termed Governor of Rivers State.
Since his loss during primary election to Atiku Abubakar in 2022, he has been at loggerhead with most members of the party which prompted him to work against his own party during the presidential election which produced Bola Tinubu as the president.
Tinubu, now the president, is a chieftain of a bitter opposition party, All Progressive Congress (APC). It can be said that Wike was eventually named Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT (Abuja), after he chose to work against his own party (PDP) during the last presidential election.
Wike, speaking at the PDP Congress in Rivers State, he said it is a great honour to be a part of the current administration, recounting his contribution towards nation building.
“We are fully in government. We are fully in Tinubu’ government. I have no regret about it and I will continue to be there. Anybody who is angry should go and hug the transformer,” he said.
Without mincing his word, Wike took a stop to shade his successor, Rivers state Governor Siminalayi Fubara, PDP members and Governors for rendering their shoulders to Fubara at their caucus meeting which was held last week in Taraba state.
His words, “Some governors say they will take the structure from us and give it to somebody. I hear that they have given them assurance that they will take the party from us. I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states. I Feel No Remorse For Working For Tinubu – Wike
“When God has given you peace, you say you don’t want peace. Whether you are in Bauchi or wherever, your hands will get burnt. You will never see pace again.
“So I’ve told them, now you have started, when I will start, don’t say I’m the one that destroyed PDP, you are the one that is trying to destroy PDP. Allow Rivers State to conduct the affairs of the party, we are aware of these unstable characters, we know that they are joining APP, let them wait during the time, they should face us in the election, don’t bother about our abuses, we have thick skin, we don’t even know what abuse is, so don’t say anybody is abusing me, of I’m nothing, they will not abuse me,” he said.

Reacting to Governors’ move to hijack that party’s structure, Wike said it is impossible for any elements to take the structure from them if they still live.
He said, “Nobody can take away the structure of the PDP from us whilst we live. We have done our part, we have elected a Governor, if the Governor says he doesn’t want us, will we run away from the party?
“We are the owners of the party and we have taken our party back.”

Wike has vowed to make PDP Governors lose their states in the coming election for drumming supports for Fubara by causing crisis and commotion in their various states.
This threat was made yesterday, Saturday, 31st August, 2024, at the PDP secretariat in Port Harcourt, Rivers state’s capital after it was known to him that some of the PDP Governors are drumming their support for his successor.
It should be noted that since PDP presidential nominee, in person of Atiku Abubakar, lost the presidential race to the opposition candidate, Bola Tinubu, Wike has not fully been in control of the Rivers state chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party because he is perceived as a betrayer.
It is now apparent that PDP is fighting back by using his godson, the governor of the state as a tool to throw and keep Wike out of PDP structure in the state.
Meanwhile, since coming to power, Fubara has kicked against any interference from his predecessor, which was still a matter of discussion during their meeting in Taraba state a few days ago where other Governors unanimously threw their weight behind him.
Although, Wike never ceases to profess that he remains the card-carrying member of the Peoples’ Democratic Party but only serving as a minister under the administration of the opposition party. The action punishable but the PDP is unable to punish due to the constitution of the party.
“Let me assure all of you, not while we live will anybody take away the structure of the PDP from us.
“But let me tell people, I hear some governors who say they will take over the structure and give it back to somebody.
“I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states. When God has given you peace, you say you don’t want peace – anything you see you take.
“Because I heard they got some money from a signature bonus, and so their heads are getting big that you will put a hand in my own state.

“Prepare because I have the capacity to also do the same thing in your own state,” he added.
He concluded by sounding a stern warning to other governors by asking them to steer clear Rivers state or they get their hands burnt.
“Whether you are from Bauchi, I don’t give a damn, whichever state you are from, as far as I know, that you are trying to put yourself in Rivers State, your hand will get burnt, and you will never sleep in your state,” he warned
