The Kano State Government has provided a rationale for dethroning the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi (II). The communique released by the government asserts that Muhammad Sanusi (II) was dethroned as the Emir of Kano due to insubordination.
In a communique signed by Alhaji Usman Alhaji, the Secretary to the Kano State Government and circulated to journalists, the dethronement of Mallam Muhammad Sanusi was announced.
Morganable gathered that the supporters of the deposed Emir construed the action of the Kano State Government as a sheer vendetta, and as a punishment for not supporting the governor’s re-election bid in 2019.

Unanimity of Decision
The Secretary to the Kano State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, asserts that the Kano State Executive Council unanimously approved Mr Sanusi’s dethronement.
“The Emir of Kano is in total disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the state Governor and other lawful authorities, including his persistent refusal to attend official meetings and programmes organised by the Government without any lawful justification which amounts to insubordination,” Mr Alhaji said.
“It is on record and in so many instances Mallam Muhammad Sanusi II has been found breaching part 3 section 13 (a-e) of the Kano State Emirate Law 2019 and which if left unchecked will destroy the good and established image of the Kano Emirate,” the official added.
The Kano State Executive Council comprises the governor, the deputy governor, commissioners, and other political appointees of the governor.
An Appeal for Calm
The Governor of Kano State, Dr Ganduje has appealed for calm and understanding within the Kano Emirate. A new emir, Aminu Ado Bayero has since been appointed.
