Michelle Janavs sentenced to five months imprisonment according to CNN News. The former executive of Chef America that created the Hot Pockets was on Tuesday sentenced to five months imprisonment for her role in facilitating admission scam in favour of her two daughters.
Following her sentencing at the court on Tuesday, she said that: “I am so very sorry that I tried to create an unfair advantage for my children.”
Michelle Janavs paid $300,000 to a consultant to help her falsify the ACT scores for her two daughters, and consequently facilitated one of her daughter’s admission into the University of Southern California as a fake volleyball recruit.
Leniency of the Judge
The prosecutors demanded for a harsher sentence of 21 months imprisonment even though Michelle pleaded guilty to the charges of money laundering and fraud.
The Judge however sentenced her to 5 months imprisonment and fined her $250,000 with a two-year supervised release after her prison term.
