Pope Francis has condemned the killing of 43 farmers in Zabarmari, Jere Local Government Area of Borno State, Nigeria.
He made this remark on the incident on Wednesday the 2nd of November during his weekly general audience held from his Vatican Library virtually due to the Covid pandemic. The Pontiff sympathised with the families of the killed farmers and prayed to the Lord that the “hearts of those who committed such horrors” will be converted.
The Pontiff stressed that the farmers were killed because they handed over a member of the sect to the Nigerian army.
“I want to assure my prayers for Nigeria, which unfortunately once again has been bloodied by a terroristic massacre.
“May God welcome them into his peace and comfort their families, and may he convert the hearts of those who commit such horrors, which gravely offend His name,” the Pope said.

The Boko Haram insurgents were thought to have carried out the attacks on these unsuspecting Farmers on Saturday, killing 43 of them in Zabarmari, Borno State of Nigeria.
In a video released on Tuesday, the despicable leader of the Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau claimed responsibility for the killing, for his group, reiterated that about 78 farmers were killed in the incident, and not 43 as reported by the mainstream media.
The United Nation estimated that about 30 individuals were beheaded during the carnage while nothing less than 110 people were killed across Jere Local Government Area of Borno State.
The NigeriaN President said that “he had given the military all the support they required and expected them to step up their efforts.”
Many sections of the society have criticized the Federal Government of Nigeria’s response to the gory carnage as insufficient. There is now an increasing clamour for the President to sack the incumbent Military Chiefs and replaced them with fresher ones.
From the President’s body language, such a step doesn’t appear to be his strategic focus. His supporters are of the opinion that replacing the Service Chiefs would not improve the security situation of the country.
