As He Fails To Address Economic Woe

Playing opposition in the game of politics is always a welcome devise which prevents the ruling party from being ‘autocratic’ which may result into one-party state if not checkmated.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is known to be the major opposition party to the ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC), due to tight contests often in between them.

In recent times, the PDP had seen itself criticised by many prominent Nigerians for not playing the role of opposition maximally due to unchecked freedom enjoyed by their counterparts, APC, in decision making and wrong choice of governance which has plunged the nation into chaos and economic woe.

However, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has bemoaned the recent increase in price of petroleum products which is currently purchased at about N1,000 per litre in several parts of the country.

The party has described the decision as “brutal assault on the sensibilities and wellbeing of Nigerians,” tagging it “insensitive and arrogant” administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The opposition party which produced first three presidents in the current fourth republic, has expressed their disappointment at the timing and manner of the inhumane policy of the Federal Government. The decision is considered to be “thoughtless” and chaotic.

The PDP also warned that hike in petrol price could worsen already suffocating economy which may aggravate living condition of Nigerians.

Noting that hardship, if not addressed as soon as possible, may cause widespread unrest, and destructive and violent demonstration which may throw the country into panic.

Debo Ologunagba, PDP National Poblicity Secretary

On Wednesday, in a statement by Hon. Debo Ologunagba, PDP National Publicity Secretary, said that there is no hope for the future if the governance remains the way it is.

He disclosed that the overbearingness and shady operation of the petroleum sector and continued hike in pump price of petroleum product during this administration at the expense of the wellbeing of Nigerians can be said to putting a fire a on a roof, waiting to see the outcome. Tinubu-led administration is pushing Nigerians to the wall, waiting, in defiance, to see their worst, he said.

In the statement, it says, “The APC administration has consistently shown itself to be anti-people, unconcerned and deaf to the agonies of millions of Nigerians who can no longer afford their daily meals, medications and basic support for families due to the catastrophic high cost of living occasioned by the insensitive and reckless policies of the Tinubu administration.

“Today, under the Tinubu-led APC administration over 150 million Nigerians have sunk below poverty line, businesses are collapsing daily as the Naira now exchange for over N1,600 to a Dollar with over 34% inflation rate and over 40% unemployment rate which are expected to rise further with the latest draconian increase in the price of fuel.”

He further stated that with the way things are being run, there is no hope under this present administration as economy continues to worsen which has seen major multi-national companies relocated out of the country.

Policy summersault, bad decision making and wrongly implemented micro-economic policies are the major problems which has prompted the exits of these multi-national companies.

He said, “The admission by the APC-led Federal Government that it has handed the fate of Nigerians to oil racketeers in the name of free market economy further validates the position of the PDP that the Tinubu-led administration has abdicated the primary purpose of government; which is to provide for the welfare and security of the citizens.”

According to Ologunagba, President Bola Tinubu, being the Minister of Petroleum Resources cannot vindicate his government and cabinet member from taking part in shady and dwindling operation of the petroleum sector which is gradually moving the country to the edge of a cliff.

“Moreover, it is inexplicable that the APC administration continues to increase fuel price despite the scandalous revelation in the public domain that it is secretly paying a whopping N5.4 trillion as fuel subsidy for 2024,” he said.

He continued by accusing the government of APC of running a government of corrupt cabal who obviously gain and joy in causing pains to Nigerians. Tinubu Is Arrogant – PDP

APC members are corrupt rent-seekers who are perceived to derive gains and pleasure by inflicting hardship and pains on Nigerians which, in return, become gains for them following their unending hike in the petroleum price products.

The PDP said, “With the hopeless state of affairs of our nation today, our Party wonders what President Tinubu, during his numerous trips abroad, says to his foreign counterparts in nations where leaders prioritize the welfare of their people.

“Nigerians will recall that the PDP had on several occasions offered constructive advice and suggestions on the management of the economy which the APC government in its arrogance in failure ignored.”

“Our Party restates that with a deft, transparent and innovative management of resources, economic potentials, comparative advantage and national refining capacity, petrol should not sell more than N250 per liter in Nigeria,” Ologunagba added.

PDP, through their Publicity Secretary, made a rally call to President Bola Tinubu to rescue Nigeria from plunging deeper into economic crisis by restoring the initial price of the Petroleum Product for the better-being of all Nigerians. We hope the best for Nigeria in coming months.
