Veteran Nollywood actress, Joke Muyiwa bags a PhD in Theater Arts at the Redeemer’s University.
The popular Yoruba movie star took to her official Instagram page to share the news with her fans and followers on Wednesday evening.
She said, “Just finished defending my PhD. I just turned Dr Mrs Joke Muyiwa. Congratulations to me”
Joke Muyiwa is a veteran who started her career as a stage play actress in the late 1970s.
She has been featured in several movies such as Odaju Omo, Afowoka, Ayitale, Afowofa and Shakabula.
This latest feat by Muyiwa means that the Yoruba movie industry has three publicised doctorate holders with Eniola Olaniyan and Saidi Balogun already on the list.
The veteran actress is currently a lecturer at the Department of Performing Arts at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State.
She finished her M.Phil at the University of Ibadan and got her PhD at Redeemers University.
Joke Muyiwa is a Nigerian film actress and academic staff at Olabisi Onabanjo University in the department of Performing arts.
She won the 5th Best of Nollywood Awards for the lead role in a movie titled Ayitale, produced and directed by Femi Adebayo.

In an interview, when asked if she is looking forward to becoming a professor, she said:
“Of course, yes. Incidentally now, I am a Principal Art Fellow, which is what they call my designation, that is, someone who combines teaching with practice.
So, that is an Art Fellow, which is equivalent to an associate professor.”
“We were not interested in the fame even though fame came with it, so if you are acting and fame and money come, it is fine.
Now they want fame and money first before anything, but then the passion and love we had for the profession kept us going.
Now the love for fame and glamour is what is keeping them but they are not being kept, that is why you see them gone in four to five years because some of them would not be able to endure the heat.”
Her prominent role in Femi Adebayo’s movie titled ‘Ayitale’ fetched her the 5th Best of Nollywood Awards.
Veteran actor, Sola Fosudo was also present at the academic defence.
