Wellness: Improve Your Mental Health By Detoxing Digitally explores alternative means of detoxing and aligning our tripartite being with our cores.

The quest for wellness demands that you improve your mental health by detoxing digitally.

We live in a technology-driven society implying that several of the daily tasks are now undertaking digitally.

This comes with its attendant health problems, most especially mental health issues.

So, it is important to emphasize the need for people to take a break from digital activities that inundate them.

This article provides essential tips on how to achieve the much-needed break from the overwhelming world of digital assets to improve productivity in overall human endeavours.

Tip No. 1: Look for a Good Book and Read

The need to catch up on a good book to steer the mind away from the hustling and bustling of society cannot be overemphasized.

Doesn’t matter whether it is a new book or a new book. It doesn’t matter whether it is fictional or biographies.

It could be a period book or Sci-fi. Read, read and read. I promise you.

It is refreshing and purposefully refocusing. Oh, and by the way, avoid e-books. It will do your mental health a world of good.

Tip No. 2:  Better Turn Off The Push Notifications Button

Nothing is as addictive and enticing as the push notifications on your phone.

When you have decided to concentrate on the task at hand, then the notification comes in.

Let me quickly check, so you say. Then another, another and another with your whole time drained.

It forces a lot of people to switch between tasks.

Psychologists think that it takes an average of 20 minutes to get back to the exact level of focus on a task, before being distracted.

Turning off the push button will do you good and help you save the time you would have lost to the distraction of the push notification.

Tip No.3: You need to change your views about the social media

It is high time you started to see social media for what it is – a means to an end and not an end.

Rather than spending a whole lot of time browsing social media at the expense of other vital tasks, you might only want to check it out when you are doing light stuff such as having your breakfast or lunch.

Also, you could treat a visit to social media as a reward for completing a task or some set objectives.

Tip No.4: Go for a short walk or a hike on a bicycle

Going for a walk in the park or hiking on a bicycle could prove to be very helpful.

It will be more effective if you can do so with your loved ones or friends.

A daily walk can significantly improve your mental and physical health, and importantly, it doesn’t have to cost a fortune to get this done. Easy does it.

Tip No. 5 Use relevant Apps to restrict your social media viewing time.

Relevant Apps such as Moment, Offtime, Flipd, SelfControl and Focus Me, among others could assist you in restricting the amount of time you devout to engaging the various social media platforms.

Restricting to a maximum of 45 minutes per day would improve your overall physical and mental health.

Tip No. 6: Don’t turn your phone to your Bedmate

Whatever you do, please don’t take your phone with you to bed.

What it does is promote those sustained moments of mindless scrolling on your phones. It deprives you of getting quality sleep.

How about charging your phones in a separate room other than your bedroom? You will find such a move useful.

Tip No. 7: Have a plan

Last but not least. Gentlemen and ladies have a plan.

You need to have a definite plan to curtail your social media engagement.

Also, have a plan to try new things that would take your mind off the need to stay glued to the internet and the various social media platforms.
