The legal battle became inevitable following his dethronement and banishment from his emirate by the Executive Council of the Kano State Government at the instance of the Kano State Governor.

The former Emir also sued the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), the Inspector General of Police (IGP), and the Director-General of the State Security Services (SSS).

The legal team of Mallam Sanusi has filed a petition at the Federal High Court, in Abuja, seeking the nullification of his banishment from Kano to Nasarawa State. Prayers of the Suit

In the suit, no. FHC/ABJ/ CS/357/2020, according to sections 34, 35, 40, 41, and 46 of the 1999 Constitution and Order 4 Rule 4 of the Federal High Court, the former Emir wants the court to restore his right to human dignity, personal liberty, freedom of association, and movement in Nigeria.

In the same suit—FHC/ABJ/ CS/357/2020—the former Emir of Kano is asking the court to declare his banishment to Nasarawa State illegal, unlawful, unconstitutional, and null and void.

On Monday, March 9, 2020, the Kano state government dethroned and banished the former emir from the Kano Emirate to Awe in Nasarawa State.

He was accused of disrespecting the authorities of the Kano State government and of serial absences from traditional council meetings and government functions without tenable reasons.

He has since been moved to Awe in Nasarawa State, and a date has been fixed for the case’s hearing.
